Exercises for Women

Having been a personal trainer for many years with a predominantly female clientele base, I realize that most women do not aspire to become professional bodybuilders, and I can't blame you.

If your fitness goals include losing weight, toning-up, reducing body fat and adding a little definition, I can definitely help.

Most women want to strengthen and tone the thighs, hips, glutes, and midsection first, then think about the other muscle groups later, and that's fine.

But there is a faster way.

If you want to achieve results in the shortest amount of time, an efficient exercise program for women should include all of your muscle groups.

Trade In That Body Fat For Lean, Sexy Definition

The fastest approach to a lean, fit body is to work each of the muscle groups, especially the larger groups, including your legs, glutes, back, and chest. This will burn more calories and help speed up your metabolism.

Adding even a little lean muscle forces your body to burn more calories than it did before. Burning calories is the key to fat loss, and achieving a lean and toned appearance is the result of reducing body fat. Take advantage of the fat burning potential of all of your muscle groups.

Don't worry, performing a bench press or barbell curl will not make you look like a man. You'll still be a woman--a woman with definition and tone.

Of course, your exercises for women program should give attention to the smaller muscle groups too (biceps, triceps, shoulders, abdominals, calves, etc.) giving you a nice, well balanced physique.

Spot Reduction

The reason so many woman tend to focus their efforts on their problem areas is that they are under the misguided perception that you can spot reduce body fat by targeting a specific area. Therefore, exercises for women often focus on these trouble spots.

Fat reduction is a body-wide process, and you simply cannot spot reduce body fat. Unfortunately, we don't get to choose where fat comes off first. So, the most effective strategy is to work the entire body. Building lean muscle all over will speed this process.

Toning

When asked about their fitness goals, the vast majority of women will express a desire to tone up but mention nothing about building lean muscle. Many have a strong desire to reduce body fat but are concerned that lifting weights will produce a bulky, muscle-bound appearance.

Toning is a result of a low body fat percentage combined with muscular definition. Since the addition of muscle burns a great deal of calories, weight training plays an important role in the quest to tone up. Read more about the great toning myth.

You can achieve your personal fitness goals in the shortest amount of time by incorporating a wide variety of movements into your exercises for women program. If you want to focus primarily on the lower body, you certainly can, just don't neglect the other muscle groups.
